If you ask me, every day I can give you different top 5. That's why I start with "High Fidelity": not the best movie ever, but Rob makes top Fives all the time, about everything. And this film gives me emotion, I feel for the main character. I care about cinematography and analyzing and learning, but in the end its all about emotion.

In the mood for love is probably one of the films that influenced me most, from a cinematographer’s perspective. I would classify the camera in this movie as "perverted." The overall atmosphere, set design and lighting are all great, the movements of the camera are refined to perfection ... nevertheless, the camera creates a sense of voyeurism, which I found impressive.

It really feels like being gently caressed and being hit by a truck both at the same time. A deep and pure emotion. Tarkovsky and Rerberg’s work manages to convey massive array of feelings and thoughts and experiences in maybe the most personal and human way I’ve seen in a film to date.

Maybe that was the movie that sprung me into cinematography, because of how different it was compared to everything I saw back in school. I was both stunned and baffled about how they acomplished what we see captured. One of the most convincing and intricate movies I've seen. A very brave approach in filmmaking.
